Sonia Lisette never shies away from bringing a little sunshine to someone's day. She is always several leaps ahead of the plan and embraces the uncertainty with grace. Sonia grew up in Southern California with no cellphone, tons of books, sports, and the arts. At a young age she was fascinated by the thought of people being inside the television; an obscure concept for a 5-year-old. As with any methodical soul, Sonia did her research and explored the arts rigorously. She bounced around classes and workshops exploring acting, singing, dancing, creative writing, and production. While attending California State University, Long Beach, Sonia was introduced to Interpersonal Communication, which became the golden thread tying all of her curiosities into a single path. For Sonia, understanding how and why people relate to each other and the effects of their communication was crucial for developing her creativity. She continued her education at the University of New Mexico, where she earned a Master's degree in Interpersonal Communication, then headed off to the University of California, Santa Barbara to start working towards her Doctorate degree.
The universe was aligning serendipitously for Sonia; she was back in her home state and Hollywood was calling—metaphorically. After pushing through some health issues, Sonia was approached by a friend to help "a bit" with a film. With zero real-life production experience, she quickly caught on and thrived. To her amazement, Sonia discovered a career combining all of her interests into a wonderful adventure. Her verve for creativity, research, scheduling, negotiation, conflict management, reading, project management, storytelling and, most importantly, building and maintaining relationships made her an ideal candidate as a Producer.
Being a film, television, and commercial Producer has provided Sonia the opportunity to effortlessly meld together her strengths. Currently, Sonia is a freelance producer and a co-owner of Escape Productions, a film production company based in Los Angeles, with Will Wernick, Kelly Delson and Jeff Delson. Together, they've released Escape Room (2017) and the social media thriller, Follow Me (2020). She is also a member of the Director's Guild of America as a Unit Production Manager.
In addition to filmmaking, Sonia loves teaching undergraduates. She is a lecturer at an arts conservatory for Entrepreneurship and Oral Communication. In her spare time, she enjoys long walks with no destination in mind, soaking in vitamin D with a non-fiction book, and lives each day challenging herself to spread kindness and compassion.
